Kotlik Home Relocation and Access Boardwalk Project
In May 2025 Drennon Construction successfully completed the Kotlik Home Relocation and Access Boardwalk Project, which involved the relocation of up to twenty threatened homes to the elevated Kotlik Gravel Land Subdivision (Plat 2013-1), located on the former community runway. The runway site, measuring approximately 35 feet wide by 2,200 feet long and elevated 5.5 feet above the surrounding terrain, was selected to provide a safer and more stable foundation away from erosion-prone areas. The project required full mobilization to this remote community, including the transport of equipment, materials, fuel, and workforce via seasonal ice road access. Drennon Construction coordinated closely with Alaska Village Electric Cooperative (AVEC) to ensure power delivery infrastructure was in place and clearances were confirmed prior to home relocation activities.
As part of the project scope, Drennon Construction constructed the first 700 feet of new access boardwalk connecting the community boardwalk system to the Kotlik Gravel Land Subdivision. This boardwalk segment provides critical access for residents and emergency services, creating the initial link to future planned infrastructure. The work included connection to the existing community boardwalk and transitioning the structure to existing grade in accordance with stamped construction drawings. This project represents a major step in community resilience, safeguarding housing infrastructure while providing safe, year-round access to the new subdivision.
