City of Valdez, Meals Hill Park Development Phase 1

 In Recent Projects

Successfully completed the Meals Hill Park Access and Trail Development Project in June 2025 as the prime contractor. The project included the construction of the main public access area, complete with parking, a drop-off zone, and an entry plaza that serves as the primary gateway to Meals Hill Park. In addition, the team constructed approximately 0.9 miles of multi-use pedestrian trail featuring scenic overlooks, a vault restroom, a picnic shelter, asphalt and gravel surfacing, cast-in-place concrete elements, utility relocation, pedestrian safety fencing, and comprehensive wayfinding and interpretive signage. Owner-provided amenities, including benches, gates, kiosks, trash receptacles, and topsoil with seeding, were installed to enhance user experience and restore the natural landscape.

Drennon Construction designed and constructed a network of four pedestrian walking trails, multiple scenic overlooks, a pedestrian boardwalk structure, and two mountain bike flow trails, each tailored to meet specific recreation and accessibility objectives. These improvements were developed using GPS-guided layouts, formal design standards, and trail management objectives to ensure long-term sustainability, safety, and user enjoyment. With this project, Drennon Construction delivered a high-quality outdoor recreation asset that enhances public access, supports tourism, and preserves the natural beauty of the Valdez area for future generations.
